Participants can enjoy some new insights into health inequalities at the Geographies of Health and Wellbeing Seminar Series by Professor Paul Boyle of the University of St Andrew's on 9 December.
The seminar will take place in Room W007, Department of Geography, Science Site, Durham University, from 2-4pm, and will be preceded by a light lunch buffet at 1pm.
Chair will be Dr Clare Bambra.
Abstract: This presentation considers health inequalities. It will present some new methods for reporting geographical health inequalities; consider the role of health-selective migration in health inequalities; and present some new findings which demonstrate how health inequality has changed over time in Europe and North America.
Prof Paul Boyle is Professor of Human Geography at the University of St Andrews. His research interests fall within population and health geography, with many projects looking at issues which intersect both these themes. He has published on migration issues, including the influence of family migration on women, on health issues, including health inequalities and the clustering of disease, and on the intersection between demographic and health issues particularly on the links between migration and health. He is Director of the ESRC funded Scottish Longitudinal Studies Centre and he has overseen the establishment of the Scottish Longitudinal Study. This major resource links data from various routine administrative sources for around 5.3% of the Scottish population and is one of the largest studies of its type in the world.
